You may have surmised from the fact that I am still writing about my Costa Rica adventures, that I was not in fact eaten by a crocodile on this mini adventure. Part of the Drake Bay tour had us canoe up a river, and then float back down on life vests.
A few of use were so anxious to get in the water, we dove in while they were setting up the canoes.
The sun was burning hot and humid, and the water was a refreshing safe haven from unwanted sunburns. While canoeing up the river we were followed by a cute dog, who eventually grew tired of swimming after us and sat on a rock to watch us go.
The river had a lazy pace as well, and when my feet hit the water I just relaxed and drifted with the slow moving water, gazing up at a tropical canopy that blocked the sun. We could hear the strange unearthly bellow of howler monkeys coming from within the jungle, and every now and then a bright bird would flit over the river in a sudden burst of color.
After our amazing river adventure, we went on a hike through the forest, where we stopped to get pictures by a waterfall, and we found some interesting wildlife.
This caterpillar was next to a rather scary looking spider, but it was the caterpillar we were warned not to touch! (Photo taken by Alyssa Kubishak)
We were told that we could eat these termites. I took an entomology class where we ate DEAD bugs..I'm not so keen on eating LIVE ones!
Now to put this grasshopper's size into perspective....

| This guy jumped right into a girls mouth after this shot was taken. They both survived the experience. |
After all of that, my battery died, and silly me, I didn't bring my charger to the week tour. Curses!
After our hike we went snorkeling, and I did not apply sufficient sunscreen on my back. Needless to say, I got pretty burnt. Lesson learned!
I managed to sign on skype that night too, so I was not completely lost from "civilization." My roommate informed me that part of the ceiling in my room had caved in. Oh well, I'll deal with that in August!
